What a blocked gutter is doing
A gutter has one job: catch what comes off the roof and take it to a down-pipe. When leaves, moss and grit build up, the water goes down the wall, into the fascia or straight onto the paving below. That becomes expensive slowly — damp walls, rotting timber and paving that greens up faster than it should.
Signs you can spot from the ground
- Water spilling over the front edge in rain.
- Dark staining or streaking down the wall below a joint or corner.
- Dripping that carries on well after the rain has stopped.
- Plants or moss visible above the gutter line.
- A down-pipe that stays dry in heavy rain while the gutter is clearly full.
Timing
For most houses once a year is enough, and late autumn is the sensible slot — after the leaves are down but before the winter rain sets in. Properties with mature trees close by often need a second clear in spring.
What clearing involves
- Access and a safe working position are confirmed first.
- Leaves, moss, silt and loose debris are removed from accessible sections.
- Down-pipe tops are cleared where they can be reached safely.
- Debris is bagged, and disposal is confirmed on your written quotation.
What clearing does not fix
Clearing removes what is blocking the gutter; it does not repair anything. A leaking joint will still leak, a sagged run will still hold water and loose brackets need refixing. Anything of that kind is reported to you plainly so you can get the right trade in. Only guttering that can be reached safely is included, and roof, render and wall cleaning are not offered.
