Drainage Channel & Driveway Edge — South East Kent
A driveway drainage channel cleared of silt and weeds, with the adjoining paving edge cleaned so water can drain away properly.
The drainage channel along this driveway edge was full of silt, with weeds growing from it. It was a small part of the frontage compared with the main paved area, but it had a practical job to do. Build-up in the channel was getting in the way of the route intended for water to drain away.
I cleared the silt and weeds from the channel and cleaned the adjoining driveway edge. The aim was not just to make the line of the paving look tidier. Clearing out the material in the channel allows it to do its job, rather than leaving that build-up behind after the surrounding surface has been cleaned.
In the before photograph, growth is visible along the channel and the blocks beside it have a duller appearance. In the after view, the channel line is clearer and the red tones of the paving edge are easier to see. Together, the photographs show both parts of the work: clearance and cleaning of the edge.
I pay attention to drainage when looking at a driveway because water needs somewhere to go. A clean-looking paved surface and a channel still full of debris would leave an important part of the job unfinished. This example shows why the edges and drainage features deserve a look alongside the main area of paving.
The result here is a cleared channel and a cleaner driveway edge so water can drain away properly. Clearing a channel is not the same as repairing a drainage system, and these photographs do not prove the condition of anything farther downstream.
